PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy aims at clarifying all aspects regarding the protection and privacy of all data provided by you through any means (verbal, written, in electronic form, or by your use of my website) as client at my private practice. I will endeavour to keep it updated as developments occur in relevant legislation.

I wish to be transparent on how I process your personal data and show that I am accountable with the GDPR in relation to not only processing personal data but ensuring that such data is retained for no longer that is necessary i.e., for as long as required under legal or regulatory requirements, or for as long as required for legitimate business purposes.

WHAT DATA IS COLLECTED?

When you initially make contact with the service, you will be asked to provide certain personal identifiable information that can be used to contact you or identify you. Personal identifiable information may include, but is not limited to: email address, first name, last name, address, either GP or emergency contact details and your phone number.

In the course of starting therapy with me, you will be asked to complete a consent form. This signed form will be held in a secure place and a copy of this form will be send to you.

It is not my usual practice to record any information about the content of our counselling sessions, but from time to time it is possible that I may make notes.

WHAT IS YOUR DATA USED FOR?

  • To provide you with the professional counselling service requested from me.
  • For scheduling appointments (please note your telephone number may be used to contact you in relation to scheduling appointments).
  • To notify you about changes to your appointments and any other changes.
  • Communicating with you in the course of our work together.

IS MY PERSONAL DATA SHARED?

The information you provide is confidential and will not be shared with any third parties without your consent, unless there are reasonable ground for concerns, i.e.-

Serious harm – In accordance with the law and recognized professional standards, I have a duty to share your information with the relevant authorities if I have reason to believe that this may prevent serious harm being caused to you or another person.

Abuse- Disclosure regarding abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, having occurred in the past or happening currently, revealing the identity of the perpetrator, I am legally obliged to make a report to TUSLA, the Child and Family Agency.

Compliance with law – I may share your information where I am required to by law or by the regulations and other rules to which I am subject.

Where confidentiality may be broken client will be notify of the circumstances.

SUPERVISION

In accordance with the NAPCP code of ethics and good practice I attend professional supervision.

  • The purpose of supervision is to ensure ethical practice.

  • Supervision operates under the same confidentiality requirements as your therapy with me.

  • Supervisor acts in a mentoring role, providing emotional support as well as information and guidance. I may explore elements of our work in supervision in order to gain perspective, receive advice, and be able to help you effectively

HOW IS YOUR DATA KEPT?

Your Personal Information is treated as highly confidential. From time to time it is possible that I may take notes in between sessions. All notes taken are stored in a secure place in my home and no one has access to them. Some limited information may be stored on my computer, when for example an initial contact request is made by email, or an exercise or information sheet sent to you during the course of our work together. All electronic records are stored securely on my computer which requires password-protected authentication.

Although I will do my best to protect your information, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. I cannot guarantee absolute security of your data transmitted to me.

HOW LONG IS YOUR DATA KEPT FOR?

Data collected will only be held for no longer than is necessary. In

keeping with best practise in my profession and legal requirements,

your data will be retained for a period of 7 years, and, thereafter, disposed of securely.

YOUR RIGHTS

You are entitled to data protection rights. You have the right to withdraw your consent for processing of your personal information, have your personal information erased, object to processing or to restrict processing. You have the right to ask me to provide a copy of the information held by me in my records, or to require me to correct any inaccuracies in your information.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time, you will be notified of any substantial changes made by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

It is recommended that you review this Privacy Policy at intervals for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy come into effect when they are posted on this page.
